Mateo ist sechs. Er fährt, seit er fahren kann — im Gelände, wo man das Rutschen lernt, auf Asphalt, wo man die Linie lernt, und im Kart, wo man den Zweikampf lernt.
Mateo is six. He has been riding for as long as he could ride — on dirt, where you learn to slide, on asphalt, where you learn the line, and in a kart, where you learn to race wheel to wheel.
Angefangen hat es nicht auf einer Rennstrecke, sondern auf einem Feldweg am Stadtrand. Ein gebrauchtes YCF-Pitbike, deutlich zu laut für die Nachbarn, und ein Fünfjähriger, der nach der dritten Runde nicht mehr absteigen wollte.
It did not start on a race track. It started on a dirt lane at the edge of the city — a used YCF pit bike, distinctly too loud for the neighbours, and a five-year-old who refused to get off after the third lap.
Davor war der Pumptrack. Dort hat er gelernt, dass man sich in eine Kurve legen muss, lange bevor ihm jemand gesagt hat, dass das so heißt. Seither ist jedes Wochenende dieselbe Frage: Fahren wir heute?

Im Sommer 2026 war die Familie in Tavullia, dem Heimatort von Valentino Rossi. Nicht zum Fahren — nur um zu sehen, wohin so ein Weg führen kann. Rossi bekam seine erste Minimoto mit sechs. Genau so alt ist Mateo jetzt.
